Century of Progress Collection, [dates span 1928-1934].

The Century of Progress Collection consists primarily of printed promotional material from the 1933 World's Fair. The collection also contains press releases from the fair's publicity department and a varied offering of souvenir and ephemeral items such as menus, diaries, postcards, photographs, and scrapbooks, offering detailed and personal accounts of the fair. A unique component of the collection is a series of pre-fair publications dating from 1928. These essays and public addresses were written as part of the exposition's publicity and fundraising campaigns. Several of the publications were written by exposition president Rufus C. Dawes. Audiovisual materials in the collection fall into four distinct record groups: postcards; photographs taken by the Kaufmann and Fabry Studio, the fair's official photographers; a photograph album presented to Leonard Florsheim; and photographs and postcards appearing in Scrapbooks 1 and 2. The collection also contains a number of 3-dimensional artifacts, primarily consisting of souvenirs that could be purchased on the fairgrounds.
